In addition to his originals, Phil plays Grateful Dead-centric shows as Near Dead Experience. NDE brings a fresh and dynamic energy to the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia Band and solo catalogs. This began as recordings for Dead Covers Project, which landed the project on the front page of Dead.net and a rare follow from the official Grateful Dead instagram.

Doux Si Doux
We’ve recorded a five song EP in French and are released it as Doux Si Doux (pronounced dough-si-dough… like the dance and the girl scout cookies). We’ve teamed up with Julie Bernouis, a doyenne of indie music who, though she’s made music in English, has never recorded in her native French language. It began when I got a licensing request for French song. I have always wanted to record music in other languages! So I asked Julie if she wanted to collaborate, and then wrote the music for a song, mumbling a melody into Google Translate on the French setting until a word or two popped up. Then I had something to build lyrics off, drafted a song idea in English and we worked them back and forth into French. Once that song (Je Navigue) was done, I wanted to make some more – so we did the same basic process four more times, et voila!
Je Navigue is featured in the film “Stowaway.”
